In this tutorial I will teach you how to install the Google XML sitemap plugin on your wordpress blog.

Having a sitemap for your blog is important because it makes it easier for search engines spider and index the pages and posts of your wordpress blog.

Even though the plugin uses the Google name, the sitemap will be used by all search engines e.g. Yahoo, Bing and Ask.

A sitemap is an xml page of links to all the pages and posts on your blog here is the sitemap for Your Blog Builder.

Step One

Make sure your blog is visible to everyone including search engines. This is a very important setting, if your blog is set to block search engines then it will not be indexed by search engines meaning no free search engine traffic :cry: .

In this tutorial I will teach you how to upgrade a wordpress plugin on your blog.

It is important to keep your plugins up to date. There are few reasons why a plugin may have been updated:

Security Issue.

May not work with the latest version of Wordpress.

New features have been added.

Step One

Wordpress have been very helpful and will tell us if there is a newer version of a plugin directly in the plugin screen so you don’t need to keep checking.

In this tutorial I will show you how to download, FTP (upload) and install a wordpress plugin.

Most plugins come with a readme.txt file giving instructions on how to install the plugin. It is worth reading that as some plugins have special instructions.

Step One

Download the plugin you wish to install. You can find loads of free wordpress plugins at the Wordpress Plugin Directory.

In this example I am going to download the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plugin a very useful plugin that makes upgrading wordpress so easy. One of a few plugins I always install first when creating a new blog.
