In this tutorial I will show you how to add a you tube video to a wordpress blog post.

Step One

First you need to find the video you wish to add to your wordpress blog on Youtube.

When you have found the video you need to highlight and copy the embed code.

Before you copy the code there are some options to choose.

Click the wheel like icon next to the embed code box like this:

This will drop down some options.

If the include related videos option is ticked (I think it is by default), untick it. This will stop links to related videos coming up when the video is finished.

Choose the colour that best fits your wordpress blog.

Last choose the size of the video window, you may have to try different sizes to see which looks best on your blog. Most blogs should look ok with 480×365 it really depends on the width of your blog.

The youtube options and look like this:

Highlight and copy all the embed code it should start with <object and end with /object>

Step Two

Next add a new post or edit if you have already created the post.

Click the HTML tab in the top right corner of the post window:

Find the location you wish to place the youtube video and paste the embed code you copied from wordpress:

Now click on the Visual tab in the top right corner of the post window next to the HTML tab.

You should now see something like this:

You will not be able to see the video itself until you publish or preview the post.

Step Three

Click Save Draft then click Preview to see what it looks like live on your blog.

If it looks ok and you are happy with it then congratulations you have successfully added a youtube video to your wordpress post.
