How To Install A Wordpress Blog Theme/ Template
ByIn this tutorial I will show you how to download, FTP (upload) and install a wordpress theme.
Step One
Download a wordpress theme to your computer. This can either be a free one from the Wordpress theme directory or theme you pay for also known as a premium theme.
In this example I will be downloading a free wordpress theme from the directory called Mystique.
The themes come in a zip format so you will need to extract the files first using software such as winzip before uploading the theme to your hosting account.
Step Two
Next you need to ftp (upload) the unzipped theme files to the themes folder in wp-content using either the upload function in your hosting account control panel or you can use a ftp program such as filezilla (free).
In this example I am using filezilla.
Step Three
Log into your wordpress admin panel.
Select themes under the appearance tab and you should see an image of the theme you just uploaded, in the available themes section, in my case Mystique and click the image to select it.
After you click the theme image it will pop up a lightbox window and show you how the blog will look with the theme activated.
If you are happy click activate in the top right hand corner.
Congratulations you have successfully installed your new wordpress theme. Go to your homepage and you should see your theme live.
